C25K Training – Day 1

On Tuesday, I had my first real training day for Couch to 5K. I had to shift my training this week a day due to being up until 2am Sunday night. For the first time ever, I was really nervous heading into the gym. I guess I was self conscious of how I looked which normally hasn’t ever bothered me in the past. So being the dork that I am, I walked in listening to the Superman theme and a couple of tracks from the Iron Man movie on my iPod to help pump me up and get rid of my jitters. I was nervous enough that I completely missed a VIP on the treadmills. After clumsily knocking my iPod off the treadmill, I get going. Then all of a sudden, this head pops in at the corner of my eye…..it was the VIP….my wife! She ended up going right after work instead of at lunch. I explained how nervous I was and apologized for my tunnel vision. We both had a laugh at my jitters, which helped and she left to pick up our son since she was done.

Despite my nervousness, I met my run/walk goal of a 5 minute brisk walk followed by another 20 minutes of alternating intervals of running (60 seconds) and walking (90 seconds). I wanted to do a full 30 minutes (training program only requires 25), so I completed the last 5 minutes with a cool down walk. I ended up going 1.75 miles and burning 346 calories in my 30 minutes. I felt really good when I was done and I got my confidence back!

Excuse the blurriness, my hands were a little shaky from my breathing.

When I got home, we made lean ground beef burgers and corn. They were gooooooooood and it was nice again to have dinner and not feel crappy!

For dessert, we had frozen non fat whipped cream in between low fat graham crackers. It was a great substitute for an ice cream sandwich.

Wednesday I am going to rest my legs (per the C25k program) and just weight train my upper body.
